Whether you’re getting ready for an engagement session, maternity shoot, anniversary session, or just documenting this beautiful season of life – photoshoots should feel like you. Candid, comfortable, and full of love. While I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way (I promise!), there are a few simple things you can do to help your session feel natural and effortless, and help your photos turn out even better than you imagined!

Here are four easy tips to make the most of your next photoshoot:

1. Coordinate Your Outfits (But, not necessarily match!)

Outfits make a huge difference when it comes to the overall vibe of your session, and choosing them intentionally can take your photos from great to next-level. I always recommend wearing neutral earth tones, solid colors, and a mix of textures – think linen, denim, soft cotton, or knits. These not only photograph beautifully but also add depth and warmth to your images without stealing the show.

Here’s a quick pro tip: If one of you wears a pattern, the other should wear a solid. That way, the looks feel complementary without clashing. Avoid anything with large logos or super bold patterns…they tend to distract from what really matters: you two.

Of course, you don’t have to go glam – do whatever feels true to you. But whether you’re doing it yourself or hiring a pro, make time to get ready in a way that feels elevated and effortless. It’s amazing how a little extra effort can help you relax, have fun, and feel fully present.

4. Focus on Your Partner + the Connection You Share

At the end of the day, this session isn’t about stiff poses or getting every hair in place…it’s about you two. The way you laugh together, the way you look at each other, the way your hands naturally find one another. That’s the good stuff.

So don’t worry about the camera – just show up ready to connect. Cuddle close. Be playful. Be quiet. Be loud. Be however you are when no one else is watching. I’ll take care of the rest.
